  1852 charles taze russell was born in(february 16) in pittsburgh, pennsylvania.

  he was raised in a strict presbyterian home.. 1868 (age 16) in an encounter with a non-believer he became disillusioned over the subject of whether god as a heavenly father would burn his children in hell.

  side note: 1869 (joseph franklin rutherford was born and raised a baptist).

  I( am not at homwe so I don't have the links but it was proven that ROSE Ball was not an orphan. She was not adopted and she was an adult when she came to Bethel. (Check posts by Farkel and Leolaia who did amazing research and added to Farkel's work)

  My assuption about the reason for the marriage was that Russell and Maria were both working together and living at Bethel. It would have been a source of speculation that an unmarried couple would be living in the same house and not be having sex. So to stop the specualation they agreed to this sexless marriage.

  But later on when Maria caught him in Rose Ball's room or giving her hugs I can see that she would be jealous. He could behave the way he wanted and had to sit back and watch it. Maria was no pushover. She had enough of his flitting raround like a butterfly to see where he would land and if the woman responded he might flirt around a bit (Not exact words but he said it in the divorce court)

  It seems that in regards to woman-on-the-side Russell was no better than Rutherford

  or maybe you accepted from the faithful slave that oral sex was bad, but you did it secretly---same with masturbation.. or perhaps you put in some wonderful hours and placements on that report slip, knowing you might have exaggerated just a bit.. so, were you one who practiced what you preached?.

  What gets me Quandry is they don't care if they hurt people. If you don't follow the line you are expendable and as such they can treat you as a non-person. Glad though that it got you out.

  well at the beginning I was a goody-two shoes and did my best to act like a really good JW.

  Then I got married and my past xhilhood abuse caught up with me and then the emotional and sexual abuse in the marriage made everything worse. I was slowly falling apart but no one knew it. I maintained the perfect image to anyone outside the home. I eventually planned my escape. Well two escapes. One was suicide but I realized I didn't want to be dead. I just wanted the pain to stop. So although suicide was always in the back of my head I pkanned my adultery that would get me out of the marriage. In the end it got me out of the JWs too.

  I don't think evne my husband had any idea how messed up I was. The only outward sign was that I had a really hard time keeping my home neat and tidy. In effect it was an outward demonstration of how confused and overwhelmed I was on the inside.

  But no one knew. So sneaky? Yea I would say planning a situation of adultery to get out of a marriage was sneaky.

  How do I as a future "Therapist" help ex-jws that won't move on from the WT?

  i am halfway through my master's program in psychology/sociology and plan on being a therapist/sounselor.

  i left jw's in 1988 and i have never looked back.

  i enjoy my life so much after getting my aa degree, then my ba degree, and now i will soon get my ma degree.

  Oh Aunt Connie I was such a shy thing back then. I commented because as an elder's wife it was expected of me. Now that I have my own mind I like to use it and give other people the opportunity to use theirs. And I prefer to treat them as if they do have a mind of their own.

  Some people would fight to the death and they have literally done that. If the attacker is determined ehough he will fiht as long as he believes he can get what he wants. On eof the reasons I post on these threads is to lessen the "ignorance" and hopefully educate people in the process.

  Yes that third response is not well known as applying to people.

  But we tell people "Never run away from a bear. Curl up. Put your hands over your head and play dead".

  We know it but we don't KNOW.

  It applies in all situations where you can't run or fight. Play dead is a normal response and we have to recognize it for just what it is. Too many victims say "I should have fought or run or ... or...." I think it is vital for all victims of abuse to know they did nothing wrong by freezing and playing dead. I have even talked to therapists and counselors who don't realize this for what it is.

  Way back in 1964 there was a woman killed while she screamed for help and no one helped. I am pretty sure the WTS had that in an article to show how terrible the world is.

  Twenty-eight-year-old Catherine Genovese, who was called Kitty by almost everyone in the neighborhood, was returning home from her job as manager of a bar in Hollis. She parked her red Fiat in a lot adjacent to the Kew Gardens Long Island Railroad Station, facing Mowbray Place. Like many residents of the neighborhood, she had parked there day after day since her arrival from Connecticut a year ago, although the railroad frowns on the practice....

  She got as far as a street light in front of a bookstore before the man grabbed her. She screamed. Lights went on in the 10-story apartment house at 82-67 Austin Street, which faces the bookstore. Windows slid open and voices punctuated the early-morning stillness.

  Miss Genovese screamed: "Oh, my God, he stabbed me! Please help me! Please help me!"

  From one of the upper windows in the apartment house, a man called down: "Let that girl alone!"

  The assailant looked up at him, shrugged, and walked down Austin Street toward a white sedan parked a short distance
  away. Miss Genovese struggled to her feet.

  Lights went out. The killer returned to Miss Genovese, now trying to make her way around the side of the building by the
  parking lot to get to her apartment. The assailant stabbed her again.

  "I'm dying!" she shrieked. "I'm dying!"

  Windows were opened again, and lights went on in many apartments. The assailant got into his car and drove away. Miss Genovese staggered to her feet. A city bus, 0-10, the Lefferts Boulevard line to Kennedy International Airport, passed. It was 3:35 A.M.

  The assailant returned. By then, Miss Genovese had crawled to the back of the building, where the freshly painted brown
  doors to the apartment house held out hope for safety. The killer tried the first door; she wasn't there. At the second door, 82-62 Austin Street, he saw her slumped on the floor at the foot of the stairs. He stabbed her a third time--fatally.

  It was 3:50 by the time the police received their first call, from a man who was a neighbor of Miss Genovese. In two minutes they were at the scene. The neighbor, a 70-year-old woman, and another woman were the only persons on the street. Nobody else came forward.

  So much for screaming for help.

  According to the WTS the only reason screaming is required is to demonstrate that you don't consent.

  Jim that is actually a good point. They take sexual matters so seriously that it would not surprise me if they asked for 2 witnesses
